Main blogs: (see description under Changemaker Blogs)

kathyberman.com; original blog about my spiritual journey that I call recovery. It was named changemaker because we are each the changemaker in our own lives. I started this blog Thanksgiving, 2004.

answersbyemail.com; has the Changemaker Test I wrote 20 years ago to teach anyone 10 of his/her personality labels and what each means. Anyone can give it to anyone else and share the results with each other.

changemakergroups.com; I believe that the best personal growth happens in small groups. Because I believe that mental health is a fluid state and not a fixed state, I trust the group conscience. I’ve always wanted to start a small group using the Changemaker Test as a way to get to know each other. So I created this blog to teach about small groups.

cmlibraryonline.com; I read 90 books in the 3rd grade. How do I know this? Because my teacher made me stay after school to report on the. Si I’ve taken 10 topics from my blogs and created Amazon lists for each. And, yes, I am an Amazon Associate so I will collect a small percent for each sale.

healingforyouonline.com; The main message of my blogs is about healing—mind, body, soul and emotions. I believe addiction is an emotional disease so the inner child has to be healed from our childhood wounds to really grow.

Google Reader: I follow 512 blogs under 89 topics.

Twitter (kberman): Following, 2679; Followers, 2,613; Updates, 1,152. I have set up a RSS feed to Twitter which lists my post for the day. This goes to all in Twitter that follow me.

My Facebook profile: Kathy Berman

My WordPress.com blogs created to teach others about blogs:

coralcayblogs.wordpress.com I created this blog to teach about blogs to the community I live in.

blogempire.wordpress.com Started to encourage blog growth

coralcay.wordpress.com Created to demonstrate sales blog

My Squidoo Lenses: www.squidoo.com/cmlens. Also a short sampler of my life. My favorite Squidoo lens of mine is ACOA, Codependency and My Inner Child.

My bookmarks are at Delicious: changemaker. I have 2561 bookmarks there which anyone can access.

Having grownup in a home controlled by alcoholism, I was able to see my addiction very early into the disease. Thanksgiving, 1976, I told my family that I thought I was an alcoholic. I fully expected everyone to disagree with me because I had not had any outward signs. But, my mother said that she had been afraid of that. So I was stuck with the admission and being the “perfect daughter”, I never drank again and went to AA.

My third month into recovery, I had a radical conversion as described by William James in his The Varieties of Religious Experience. It was instant and I call it ‘”the moment that changed my life.” So I have been trying since 1977 to hear what god’s will is for my life. Many days I have followed my will and called it His. But there has been progress, too.

In June, 2009, my husband left me for another woman and they live down the street together. Without God and His followers, I could not have been able to pick up my life and move on. But I now have a need to support myself as my Social Security isn’t enough.

I have been writing on blogs for five years mainly about my spiritual journey which I call recovery. My original blog became so large that I have 6 blogs which each have a single main topic. I have about 30 blogs as I did several to help others learn how to do blogs. I have put all my online work on a separate page.

I always believed that I would make money with my writing. But that hasn’t happened. There are 20,000,000 blogs now. The writing field online is glutted with other writers due to so many looking for any kind of work. There also is so much competition for other countries with writers who work for $1-$2 per article. Each article takes about 1-1 1/2 hours to write.

So, my purpose with this letter is to introduce myself and to see if you know any employment as a speaker/trainer about recovery. I have included a separate list of possible ways that I help people.

The main reason that I love helping others is because we are each born with a core of goodness from birth. I also believe that this core contains our creativity which is the source of our joy. I also believe that helping anyone find this creativity is the answer to awakening others to the beauty of himself/herself. Finally, I believe maturity is returning to the joyful, playful child that God created.

Who is on Your Team?

No matter what our walk in life, we all need a team that believes in us and is rooting for us. Generally this is not a large group of people–the real die-hard, thick and thin team.

One of the beliefs I live with comes from a song of Steve Winwood’s: “When there’s no one left to leave you and even you can’t quite believe you–that is when nothing can deceive you.”

I live with the rule of the shiny faces–if your face lights up when you see me coming, then I want to spend time with you. But if only your lips smile then I don’t hang around. Sadly, I used to try to get the approval of the faces who didn’t light up. What a waste of time and effort that was.

Mentors/Guides/Healers/Sponsors

When You Find the Buddha in the Middle of the Road–Kill Him is the wise title of a good book by Sidney Kopp. No one knows what is better for anyone but that person. We each have our own answers. Even those trained in counseling techniques can only see what is revealed. Tendencies may be seen and certainly personality indicators will be there. But the work of change is a person’s individual choice.

Fruits of the Spirit

How do you know that someone–regardless of age–is spiritual? Certainly not because they say they are. The best evaluation is to see the fruits of the Spirit manifested by them. The fruits of the Spirit are love, joy, peace, kindness, self-control, patience, faithfulness, goodness, longsuffering and gentleness as listed in Galatians 5:22-23.

“The concept of energy and the flow of that energy in the human body is the core of the current explosion in healing. The healing principle is to “balance” the energy in the body by using relaxation to counter the body’s reaction to stress.” The Berkeley Holistic Health Center

The Changemaker blogs integrate all the tools for living a healthy, balanced life. Many times busy people will see or read something that they would love to integrate into their lives. But they lack the time to plan and execute a total health plan.

Changemaker offers the Changemaker blogs geared toward recreating your life by making healthy choices. With the blogs, you may choose a diet program, a fitness plan, and/or the emotional/mental processes designed to give you higher energy.

You will create your individual plan of dealing with stress, adding exercise you enjoy, finding your life mission, making new time choices, creating a new food plan of foods you love, and feeling empowered. By using the emotional/mental exercises recommended, you will add more energy and vitality to your life.

The Changemaker blogs include mental, physical and emotional exercises that you can use for the rest of your life because a total life make-over is needed to get and stay healthy.

We have spent 30 years researching, enjoying, and implementing self-help, exercise, diet, nutrition, spiritual, emotional, mental, psychology and addiction books. Our central focus is on holistic healing—mind, body and soul. So the Changemaker Library includes the books we have found that have become our “textbooks”.

We have included 50+ books which are incorporated in our Changemaker Library. All of the books used are the choices of Changemaker without solicitation from any author or publisher. We include the title of the book, the author, the ISBN number, and an Amazon link if you choose to order the books yourself.

Our goal is that each person using the Changemaker blogs can create and continually change her/his health plan. Health takes effort to maintain. Each of us needs to know what we need to do to attain our highest level of health.

It is estimated by the age of 21, each of us has acquired 20,000 hours of negative self-talk. Learn to listen to the voices in your head. Whatever you are thinking is what you are feeling.

Everyone has many personality labels yet most of us resist being labeled. Over a lifetime, we each will have hundreds of labels because we each have unique life experiences. The main way we learn our labels is from others. We generally resist these learnings as it feels that the labels have a negative connotation.

Yet most of our labels are positive and negative at the same time. We each love to learn about ourselves. But we pretend that we don’t want to know. It is the same maneuver we use to view a group picture that includes us. While oohing and aahing over all the other group members, we are secretly gazing at ourselves.

Personality labels are personality indicators. Labels can be positive and negative at the same time. By learning our personality traits, we can determine the positives about ourselves to enrich our self-image.

Understanding ourselves and what motivates each of us can be a powerful tool towards meeting life’s challenges and personal dreams. By learning our personality traits, we can determine the positives about ourselves and change the negative thoughts to positive ones.

The Changemaker Test is meant to be the starting point for self-discovery. With the complete test, answers and explanations, anyone can test their friends and family. Also anyone who has compassion for others can use these materials to begin discussion groups of persons interested in self-discovery.

Anyone can start a free group online at Ning after s/he organizes a community. The Changemaker Test Package includes:

• The test of 25 personality traits include the categories of NLP(neurolinguistic programming), birth order, family roles, emotional energy, and MBTI (Myers-Briggs Type Indicator)

• From the 25 traits, each person will learn 10 of his/her personality traits • Each of the 25 traits is explained in an individual description • Included is the Big Five Test and enneagram information.

• A bibliography for all the personality traits has been added and links for each of the personality labels is added.

These labels from the Changemaker Test are mine (Kathy Berman). These explanations are taken directly from the Changemaker Test Package to demonstrate the complexity of the label explanations.

A. NLP (neurolinguistic programming)--I am auditory. Only 10% of people tested are auditory. We are the ones who are always making you wait for certain words in a song. When I used to be dating, my poor friends had to hear the whole conversation of my current guy and me--"I said and then he said"--blah, blah, blah.

B. Birth order--First born. The first born believe that we were born to straighten everyone else out. So we do ruffle a few feathers. We are well-organized and reliable, but tend to be moody and perfectionist.

C. My 2 family roles are: (1) the doing role (what I appear to be to the rest of the world)--family hero. Family heroes are hard workers, successful, leaders but feel inadequate because nothing is ever good enough. My second role--( 2) the being role (the role I choose when I am in trouble emotionally--scapegoat. Scapegoats are rebels who have a hard time learning conflict resolution. We tend to pin any trouble on someone else.

D. The two energies I use the most are: creative and logic. Logical people are organized, set goals and have a plan of action. Creative people are flexible in problem-solving and use a lot of imagination.

E. MBTI (Myers Briggs Type Indicator). I am INTP. I am an introvert--intuitive--thinking--perceiving person. The main focus in my life is understanding and learning. "INTPs are logical, analytical and detached in their approach to life" according to Charles Martin at CAPT. Whole books have been written about each of these 16 types so more information is very available.

I am reinventing myself. Over the years, I have had eight separate and unique careers. I seem to be on a rotation among all the things I love to do. My present career is writer. I no longer work outside the home. Since I started the Changemaker blog in November, 2004, I have returned to this love of putting words on a page. Creative writing was my favorite course in college in 1961.

Unfortunately or fortunately, I grew up in a world that work meant having a job. I lived in a small town with no job opportunities so I majored in education so that I could teach. I guess I was one of those who chose teaching because I knew that I could get a job. Needless to say, five years later I realized I wanted to do something else. The students were wonderful and fun. I taught college-bound seniors English and made them diagram. They hated it but they learned grammar.

So, getting back to the reinventing myself—I have really enjoyed creating the Changemaker Library. So I am going to continue focusing on choosing great books from all categories. I don’t do book reviews. Instead I like to give the reader a listing of the book’s content as well as excerpts from the author. What I am creating is the opportunity for readers to choose books based on the book’s content.

Also, although I have mainly been writing about my experiences on the spiritual course I have chosen for my life, I find I am at a natural place to add more about other people’s ideas and explorations. For 30+ years, I have lived my life according to the direction I thought I received from God. If this sounds vague I believe we rarely receive a huge mandate from God about much of anything.

I am generally skeptical about those souls who know exactly what God is telling them to do. The difference for me between the ego and the soul is that the messages I hear in my soul are generally things I don’t want to do or don’t feel that I deserve. The Changemaker blog began this way. I was sure that I wouldn’t be able to sustain writing of such a personal nature. The trick for me for writing to the blog is I that I pretend that I’m talking to someone instead of writing.
